Happy Fourth Of July!

It seems to me today that lots of sites are talking about fireworks and how they relate to orgasms…

I was thinking I would take a different route.

When I was growing up my parents always had a party on the fourth of July. They would invite there friends over and all the kids would play and the parents would drink and play cards. It was an amazing experience. We as kids would eat good food all brought over by my parents friends. My dad and the guys would all stand around the grill and drink beer and chat making hotdogs and sausages, the kids would play volleyball or swim or just run and have fun. My mom and the ladies would make sure all the food was out and being replenished, they made homemade ice cream, and then would sit and drink strawberry flavored rum drinks. As the sun would set the kids would all get sparklers and my Dad would set off fireworks in the back yard as the dog ran and hid beneath the bed. After the kids would all crash and some of the parents would stay up and continue to play cards and drink until the wee hours.

Do people still have parties like this? In my adult life I have never been invited to one fourth party. I am thinking that I should throw one but then I don’t have a yard… or a pool… or the space to have lots of people over to barbeque, let alone the barbeque to cook on.

Well maybe I will figure something out… It would be really nice to recreate those memories… and give my kids something to think fondly of when they are adults.

What do you usually do for the fourth? and what did you do as a kid on this day?

Hugs and Kisses,

My 4th’s growing up were awesome. It was up at the cabin. We’d spend all day lighting off (yes the kids lit them off) smaller fireworks and bottle rockets. All illegal from the reservation. Or before the age of ten the adults would light them.

But the whole day was about the fireworks. Usually we’d bbq or something, and then at night the adults would light off the big firewors–also illegal from the res.

We don’t do that anymore. We’re strictly legal, if we even do it. Last night was such a yawner. Stuck in Seattle where it’s illegal, but you still can’t see anything from the big show.

    I’m getting old.

    That sounds wonderful Shelli!

I would love to go to the cabin some fourth and shoot off fireworks for the kids… sounds like a great childhood memory!

You are not old! My parents in their 60’s still hold 4th of July parties.

    Hugs and Kisses,
